String of Turtles (Peperomia prostrata)
A rare and captivating trailing plant, the String of Turtles gets its name from the tiny, shell-like markings on each leaf that resemble a miniature turtle shell. Native to Brazil’s rainforests, this slow-growing beauty is adored for its intricate patterns and compact vines — ideal for shelves, hanging planters, or terrariums.
🌿 Care Guide:
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much sun will fade the leaf patterns; too little and the growth will slow significantly.
Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry before watering. Overwatering is the quickest way to cause root rot — less is more.
Humidity: Thrives in medium to high humidity. Bathrooms and kitchens are excellent locations, or you can increase humidity by placing a small dish of water or a pebble tray nearby.
Temperature: Keep between 65–80°F (avoid cold drafts and sudden temperature changes).
Soil: Use a well-draining mix, such as a blend made for succulents or epiphytes.
Fertilizer: Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted houseplant fertilizer.
