Sedum spurium 'Tricolor' (Caucasian Stonecrop) is a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant, mat-forming succulent perennial, known for its variegated green, white, and pink leaves and small pink flowers in summer. It thrives in full sun, grows 2–4 inches tall, spreads to 12–18 inches, and is hardy in zones 4–9. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Key Characteristics & Care:
  • Foliage: Tricolor (green-white-pink) leaves, often turning deeper red/pink in cold weather.
  • Flowers: Star-shaped pinkish-red flowers bloom in early-to-mid summer (June–July).
  • Light: Prefers full sun but can tolerate light shade.
  • Water/Soil: Drought-tolerant and needs very well-drained, average to poor soil. Susceptible to rot in wet conditions.
  • Uses: Excellent as a groundcover, for rock gardens, container "spiller," or along paths.
  • Hardiness: Extremely hardy, surviving down to -30°F (Zone 4). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]
Maintenance Tips:
  • Cut back after blooming to tidy the plant.
  • Easily propagated by cuttings.
  • Resistant to deer and rabbits.
  • Note: Avoid walking on it, as the stems are fragile. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
